Tina Cruz, a 3D artist with a foundation in studio arts from her undergraduate degree, now merges traditional techniques with digital innovation. Graduating from the University of Houston - Clear Lake with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Design, and pursuing a Master of Art in Art and Technology at the University of Oklahoma, Tina integrates tools like Unity, Maya, and Krita to craft immersive 3D paintings for VR.
Her creative process spans digital art, painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, photography, and textiles. Tina begins her digital paintings with inspiration from personal photographs or references but often ventures into creating art from her imagination. She gravitates towards smooth, fluid, organic shapes and layers of colors, with a fondness for monochromatic palettes and the vibrant hues found in flowers and plants. Horizon lines are a key element in her work, providing focus and grounding.
AI plays a collaborative role in Tina’s creative process, acting as a tool to enhance and complement her artistic vision rather than defining the final outcome. She uses AI to explore new possibilities and refine her ideas, integrating it harmoniously into her workflow to support her intuitive approach to art.
Tina’s art is ever-changing, reflecting her dynamic self-expression. Each piece evolves as she works, guided by intuition and the ongoing transfer of energy. This process is a harmonious dance between challenges and discovery, creating a presence on the canvas or medium that captures and preserves the essence of each moment. Her work aims to translate visions and experiences into powerful visual expressions.
Her previous exhibitions include a series of etching prints as official donor gifts at the University of Houston - Clear Lake, a feature in the “Dinner Party” Retrospective, and recent works showcased at the “!@#$ 2020” exhibition and the BFA exhibition 2021. Residing in the Greater Houston area, Tina continues to explore the intersection of art and technology, driven by a deep connection to nature and personal growth.
